Friday 13th January 2006: Hendon fans form Trust (Hamstead & Highgate Express)

Hendon FC fans decided at a meeting on Saturday to form a Supporters Trust with a view to keeping the Ryman League premier division club alive.

The meeting, attended by more than 70 supporters, concluded that the formation of a Supporters Trust is a necessity, with the prospect of the club losing both its owners and its ground at Claremont Road.

Hendon's home ground is unlikely to be available from the end of this season after the land was put up for sale, and a proposed move to Barnet Copthall Stadium has stalled for a number of reasons.

In addition, Arbiter Group Ltd, the club's owners since 1994, have made it clear that they wish to divest themselves of the club at the end of the season. With the aim of raising £100,000 per annum in order to maintain the club's status, the Supporters Trust was overwhelmingly approved. The club will now look to enter into a ground-sharing scheme with another local team, in order to avoid the possibilities of folding or merging with another club.
